MUMBAI LOCAL : RAIL CARD TO REPLACE SEASON TICKETS
Local Train commuters may soon get a Rail Card in place of monthly season tickets which they can also use for some retail therapy, a famous Newspaper reported. To be launched in Mumbai's local train network on a pilot basis before the facility is extended to other places, the public sector transporter is in talks with 31 banks to firm up the co-branding proposal.

According to the plan, there will be three types of Rail cards - Gold, Silver and Platinum. While the silver card will be for monthly pass holders, gold cards will be issued to passengers opting for six months duration pass. Platinum card is meant for year long pass holders.
Banks, including SBI, ICICI, HDFC and PNB have shown keen interest in the Rail Card project and accordingly agreements will be signed,' said the official.
Nearly 75 lakh commuters use the local train services in Mumbai every day and is called the city's lifeline. Likewise, the train service is a key mode of transportation in Kolkata and Chennai as well.
Indian Railways has already launched a mobile application for paperless unreserved tickets for local train travel. Offering Rail Card to replace monthly passes is a step further towards providing more facilities to passengers, added the official.

SEAT MODIFICATION :: TRIAL RUN SOON : MUMBAI LOCAL
The Central Railway decided to modify the seating arrangements in the Mumbai Local trains in order to ensure the safety of the Train passengers. And will make the trail run soon of Mumbai Local trains with modified seating arrangement. The new decision is because of the increasing deaths of commuters due to falling off the extra crowded suburban trains in the Mumbai region.

In one rake, all the three seater seats adjacent to the door way have been removed to create extra space for the standing passengers.The modified seating arrangements have been made following instructions of the committee formed by Railway Minister for ensuring passengers safety on suburban trains in Mumbai section.
Trial run of the single rake will be conducted within two to three days and feedback will be collected. Following the modifications, the total passenger capacity of this rake gets enhanced by 336 passengers. No modifications have been done in the motor coaches, ladies compartments, handicapped and luggage compartments.
In each coach Grab handles will be provided after removing three seaters seat adjacent to doorways. So that commuters should not feel discomfort and they can hold the handles while traveling at the time of extra rush during the peak hours.
